  Dear Black Swan, Stealth, and Blondie,

  Thank you for your honesty. It has to be painful as I personally CAN and DO understand. Given my father's penchant for cheerfulness - with a measure of naivete' thrown in - I simply chose to offer a positive approach to the matter. I grew up with "the Beav" [Leave it to Beaver], but my childhood didn't much resemble his. I UNDERSTAND and have empathy despite my positive spin. Laughing on the outside, crying on the inside.

  Nobody has rained on anybody's parade. Telling it like it is, IS perfectly all right.

  WT 1/1/07 the worst in a decade?

  there are a number of long time witnesses in my family ( 60 years plus) who are shocked by the contents of the jan 1 2007 wt.

  for the first time they are telling me that someone in the writing department have it sooooo wrong!

  in their minds it does not mean that the society as a whole is wrong because of their past comments (!!??).

  Mary recently scanned/photoshopped [?] a pic of a KH with the roof cut away and 24 bright and shining stars overhead requesting worship. There were posts on this subject already. Will do some digging.

  "When prayer stops so does coincidence." [source?]

  Your story proves how there is a tendency to spin a yarn, but not necessarily a web of deceit in all cases. There is no way to prove the answer to prayer. Some of my prayers got a yea, many, a nay. I am becoming aware of so many contrasting points of view here at JWD. It never even OCCURRED to me that the Bible could be, well....One thing I think I know maybe, almost nearly, for certain is that God - whose identity I am seeking anew - is not the possession solely of JWs, subject to their vacillating notion of truth.

  The point of your story is well taken. I will refrain in future from discussing my ongoing encounters and conversations with the burning bush.

  2007 starts off with a bang

  its 5:25am here, and i think i haven't had 30 minutes sleep all night.

  the next door neighbors shot fire works off for 3 hours before midnight and another hour after wards.

  my husband had to film a function and got home at 1:30 after a tire blew out on the highway.. my oldest son came in at 3:00 am with a broken nose.

  Dear Ringers Out & Janus,

  It's twenty minutes to midnight. I'm going to join up now with Nancy Drew, George Fayne, Bess Marvin, Jack Kingdon and Togo. We're staying at the old Conger Estate, which is on the ocean. Literally ON the ocean. The place has been neglected for years and the sea has been eating away at the foundation. Should be fun, being with all my old chums. We finally caught Jocko and brought him home to his delighted and much relieved family. We'll drink soda pop and sing camp fire songs.

  Dear Lauders of the Net,

  When I was a kid, hometown libraries were hundred-year old stone monuments, held together by a very old skin of impenetrable ivy. Expansive lawns, surrounding the venerable edifice, were shaded by mighty oaks. My home away from home. The musty smell of old books, the hushed voices that revered the quiet necessary for concentration, the solemn, measured steps through towering shelves of ancient wisdom. Heaven.

  They tore down my sanctuary and threw up a sparkling, modern monstrosity of brick and glass and steel. Nostalgia is a thing of the past. Fast forward to the world of the NET: quick, efficient and no need to burn fossil fuels to get a load of books. Instant availability of obscure and arcane reading. The world at your fingertips.

  Dear Readers of Verboten Volumes,

  While specific details were not given, it was announced one morning at Bethel [early 1970s] that Brother Newboy was dismissed because of an undue attachment to old teachings. His father had been influencing him from outside; I'm assuming that this was by letters and/or phone conversations. At the time, I had no clue what harm could come from reading older publications. We boys were scratching our collective heads over that one. Such a peculiar announcement is not easily forgotten.

  I blame Society officials for the Great Apostasy Scare [GAS] of 1980. They ought to have banned all Bibles.

  Dear Dearth of Education,

  Mentioned elsewhere was my comment that the august Conservatory whose halls I vacated years ago to become a JW is regularly sending me invitations to gala events. And they make public the list of contributors and at what level they donate. This facility is famous. Contrariwise, the WTB&TS and its AWAKE! EDUCATIONAL CENTER OF INTELLECTUAL DISHONESTY AND UNDERACHIEVEMENT is infamous; they do not make public who gave how-many millions.

  I wish - in my want - to donate to my aborted alma mater. How do I contact the Regional District Overseer's Office, so that I might be granted authorization to contribute to a WORTHY CAUSE? I am not angry; I am sad. Come to think of it, I am monumentally enraged.

  i know that most of what the wbts says and does is viewed by many of us as hogwash, but what do you think was the most controversial thing that happened or was said by the watchtower in 2006?...............i mean something so obviously off the wall or sinister that it would make even the most hardcore jw pause and say, "hey, what the f*ck?!!
